Streaming cuts off actors’ “residuals,” and actors receive virtually no residuals from one of the most popular shows on Netflix, Gilmore Girls. The strike is the largest in the union’s history, involving more than 160,000 actors.
In addition to pay conflicts, the threat of artificial intelligence (AI) potentially replacing actors and writers is one of the main reasons actors are striking. Actors demanded that movie and television companies would not replace live actors with faces and voices generated by artificial skills.
